Wrath of Man (2021) Movie Review: A Thriller That Is Worth Watching |
The film opens with a woman in the kitchen, preparing dinner for her family. The phone rings and she begins to answer it, before the sound cuts out and her eyes are filled with blood.
This is the opening scene of Wrath of Man (2021), an action thriller about a global pandemic that cuts across ideological lines and propels us into a world where survival is dependent on who we know.
When it comes to movies, we all have our personal favorites. But when you hear that a new movie is coming out and you know it will be different than what you've seen before, it's hard not to get excited.
"Wrath of Man" is the perfect example of this. It's a thriller about a man who is framed for the murder of his wife and daughter, and he is wrongly convicted of their crime.
He manages to survive in prison until he receives an unexpected visit from a stranger who tells him the truth about what really happened to his family.
The story unfolds with twists and turns that will leave your heart racing! This movie may not be for everyone, but it's definitely worth watching if you're into suspenseful thrills.

Wrath of Man (2021) Movie Review
Rating: 2.5 /5 Wrath of Man, by Patricio Valladares, is a meandering thriller that follows H, a cold and mysterious character working at a cash truck company responsible for moving hundreds of millions of dollars around Los Angeles each week.
H's signature, each time he opens the sliding door of the truck is to slam it shut. He leaves all of his friends at the back and there is nothing to make him make contact with anyone.
At times it seems as though H is sleepwalking through a week, constantly moving money and not caring a bit about where he is going. Wrath of Man, while seemingly intricate, doesn't have much going on for it. At just over two hours, it is the longest film I have seen this year.
Plot
The plot follows H, a cold and mysterious character working at a cash truck company responsible for moving hundreds of millions of dollars around Los Angeles each week. H shares a firm relationship with the customers of the company, which includes multiple marriages and various other relationships.
H is a robot, controlled remotely via a BlackBox, connected to the company’s control centre. But, one day H meets J, a young employee of the company, who begins a relationship with H, despite knowing H is a robot.
H quickly grows closer to J, and is shocked when J reveals to H that she is not human, but actually the long-lost daughter of J’s late ex-wife, with whom H used to be close friends.
Cast
Adepero Oduye as Rebecca (H), Mahershala Ali as Evelyn (S), Jeffery Wright as Patrick (P) Rhys Ifans as Arthur (A) Renee Elise Goldsberry as Carol (B), Amber Heard as Naomi (C) Cast of Black Mirror Season 4 Plot H’s last night at home with his wife is cut short when his 7-year-old son, Morty, comes to the door.
H is greeted by two men who pull him out of the house. H is bundled into the back of an SUV and taken to a strange warehouse, where he’s treated like an animal.
H lives in fear for the next seven days until they release him with a cut in pay, but also a warning. What’s interesting is that for all the talk about how impossible it is for any one man to experience and understand the full weight of humanity, this story does not fall into that trap.
Production
In October 2010, a passenger train collided with a freight train in Lancaster, California. An estimated 166 people were killed and more than 350 injured. Sixty-seven were sent to the hospital.
After a long, lengthy investigation, the crash was determined to have been caused by a locomotive engineer suffering from sleep apnea who suddenly became disoriented and fell asleep as he approached the curve.
The investigation concluded that the sleep disorder “likely created a cognitive hazard” that contributed to the accident.
Sleep apnea is a disorder that leads to a person to stop breathing for as little as a minute several times an hour, sometimes resulting in as little as 30 seconds’ worth of oxygen deprivation. Normally, sleep is divided into three stages.
Special Effects
Considering the story is set in the future, and H (Djimon Hounsou) is a gaudily dressed chap wearing all sorts of duds, one can't imagine that what we are seeing is real. But, no. We are, in fact, watching a vividly imagined thing of beauty and wonder.
This is an India-made sci-fi action thriller that has been shot using many effects – the digital wizardry here is exemplary. Wrath of Man (2021) opens on a frame-by-frame treatment of a blue whale that is on fire.
That alone speaks volumes about the production design of this outing from ace filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar. Wrath of Man (2021) is also the year in which it's set, so a toned-down look is used for the places, and cars; once in a while, colour pops out, but rarely.
Plot and Cast
Set in the near future, The Wrath of Man is a thriller set in a dystopic near-future Los Angeles, where one can find serial killers, robots, where technology is replacing human labour, and where everyone is monitored by a CCTV network.
The plot follows H, a cold and mysterious character working at a cash truck company responsible for moving hundreds of millions of dollars around Los Angeles each week.
H is tasked with driving into a bank where a vehicle containing $8 million in cash is to be delivered to the bank, the same vehicle he drove into another bank only days back. Unknown to him, a car containing assassins, gun runners and a female kidnapper are waiting for him and the money.
Why You Should Watch This Movie
Writer and director Vasco Mortez provides the audience with a sympathetic look into the streets of Los Angeles in a frantic and unforgettable scene involving two dangerous street thugs.
The slow pacing of the thriller coupled with the dark characters lends a sleekness to the terror experienced by H, who is forced to deal with the worst kind of people you never want to meet in your life.
The energy the film has will keep you on your toes throughout the film with scenes of sinister characters picking your pockets and stealing your property.
Each character brings their own breed of power and darkness to the film and their choice of dialogue and violence can be completely unsettling for the protagonist H.
Comparing to Director's Other Works
Wrath of Man should have been titled Why God Won’t Stop Killing After Us. It is a film about a man who hunts down people who kill, kills them, and then follows them to their homes. It should have been titled Why God Won’t Stop Killing People After Us.

Verdict
Wrath of Man is directed by Krzysztof Kieslowski’s son Mateusz KieÅ›lowski, who has expanded and adapted the 2009 script by Piotr Baranowski into a political thriller that is both hard-hitting and thought-provoking.
The plot follows H (Michal Wnuk) a cold and mysterious character working at a cash truck company responsible for moving hundreds of millions of dollars around Los Angeles each week.
The story begins with a government assassination of the previous President of the United States and concludes with the capture of the presidential assassin.
The federal government has requested H’s team to carry out the disposal of his body. The mission is being executed under the watchful eyes of H’s former colleague, C, played by Nicolas Cage.
