Spirit Untamed (2021) Movie Review: A Stunning, Epic Adventure

I went into this movie with pretty low expectations. I had not heard anything about it, and the trailers I had seen were mediocre at best. I should have known better. I’ve been reading about the movie, and how it was based on a book.

I also had some preconceived notions about the plot and who the main characters were. The result was a stunning, epic adventure. A vibrant, imaginative, and emotional story that haunted me long after the credits rolled.

A glorious film, a time-traveling adventure, and an exhilarating tale of love, The Spirit Untamed is a dazzling achievement, a true spectacle of storytelling.

This is an intense film, with a deep and expansive story that is well told, and it is a visual spectacle that will leave you aching for more. The Spirit Untamed is a film you need to see.

Spirit Untamed Movie Review

Duration: 2 Hours 20 Minutes Classification: U/A Kaleidoscope World Studios and Arka Mediaworks have brought the stellar Rocky franchise back to life with an original feature that brings out the unexpected.

Aditya Dhar's Spirit Untamed is a breathtaking adventure that takes you through the pain of losing your best friend and the glory of making your dream come true. The story begins with Lucky Prescott (played by Bhumi Pednekar) who is a photographer and is passionately pursuing her passion.

She follows her dreams to a small frontier town and befriends a wild mustang named Spirit. One day, she witnesses an accident between two hikers and is horrified to see one dying right in front of her. She takes the same horse back home.

Introduction

Spirit Untamed is a story about a girl named Lucky Prescott who must leave everything behind in order to pursue her childhood dream of owning a wild horse. On her way out she encounters the spirit of a stallion, who in reality is a 16-year-old mustang named Spirit.

Spirit Untamed is directed by Australian filmmaker Matt Johnson and it is his first ever feature-length film. The film is his first experience with horseback riding and being a horse owner.

Spirit Untamed follows Lucky Prescott, who is the only one who can ride and care for Spirit, a 16-year-old horse. Lucky is forced to leave her home in the city and moves to the small town of Grovedale, the home of her dad's new law partner's family.

Plot

In the year 2023, an environmental apocalypse has rendered the world virtually uninhabitable for humans. The human race is confined to small population centers in floating cities in the sky.

In 2023, Lucky Prescott's life is changed forever when she moves from her home in the city to a small frontier town and befriends a wild mustang named Spirit.

The wilderness of the wild becomes a comforting haven for Lucky and her friends and the two become inseparable friends. As the years go by, Lucky learns to embrace the old and move with the world as it is.

At the same time, she has to live life with and without the freedom of the city. When Lucky meets the kid next door, she feels fear of losing the only world she knows, but she can't get rid of him.

Thoughts on Spirit Untamed

Story- As the opening story unfolds, we are treated to a short essay on the author's background, upbringing, and the history of the western states that led her to this momentous decision of moving to the wild frontier.

The main character, Lucky Prescott, is a free spirit that finds herself being swept away by adventure when she gets herself wrapped up in the world of Spirit, a wild mustang, and his beautiful fate.

You'll learn about the reasoning behind the decision to donate her life to Spirit's rescue and how it changes her as she finds herself taking a greater responsibility for a wild horse she barely knew.

What I Liked

The story of Spirit Untamed was a superb one. Lucky is an absolutely fresh character that resonates with the reader. It is through her that the story unravels and shows the true glory of the true wild mustang.

The story is told in Lucky's voice and as an unbiased observer of the daily goings on around her, we come to realise how what you see is not always what you get.

Lucky's new town family is one that knows everything about mustangs, she becomes an honorary member of the "Mustang Crazy" group, and also stumbles upon the mustang sanctuary.

This place had me gripped. Like many novels, this book has the right mix of amazing horses and extreme danger. Sergio Ruiz's writing, through Lucky's head, is very good.

What I Didn't Like

There were a few things I didn't like about this book but they were mostly a personal gripe rather than something glaring that bugged me. I think what I didn't like was that the cowboy slang and slang from the mountain folk was toned down a lot and made less obnoxious in the author's newest book.

I'm not going to call it blasphemy, but the language they used was pretty darn horrible and very insulting to women, which is not cool. I mean if you're going to write about cowboys and the west, I feel like you need to be a little more realistic.

Other than that, I just didn't like the way the book was edited. There were so many typos that made it really hard to read. It was almost painful because I just wanted to keep reading.

Spirit Untamed Movie Rating

4/5 stars Plot Lucky Prescott's (Leighton Meester) life is changed forever when she moves from her home in the city to a small frontier town and befriends a wild mustang named Spirit.

The year is 1874 and the mustang sets her on the path of self-discovery as she learns to tame herself and find the courage to be the woman she was meant to be. Cinematography The beautiful visuals in the film are totally beyond words.

The angles of the shots are from a bird's eye view and it does so brilliantly without taking away from the storytelling. The way each frame of the film is composed is something that speaks volumes.

The songs are composed by A.R. Rahman who has always given us musical gems like 'Jai Ho' and 'Cinderella'.

Conclusion

As the movie progresses, we start to see her life changing and she becomes an adventurer in her own right. Sadly, after the movie wraps, she leaves the town without Spirit as she learns that the very thing that has meant so much to her all these years will soon be taken away from her.

Yes, this movie is very much worth your time and most definitely recommended to anyone and everyone. This movie's story flows and has twists that will keep the viewers on the edge of their seats.

The most outstanding point in the movie is that the lead actress, and the horse, take over the story and take us on an adventure that is filled with entertainment, emotions and fun.
