Red (2021) Movie Review: A Delightful, Mind-Bending Thriller

In the near future, a mysterious new technology has emerged: the ability to record and playback someone's thoughts. This technology is quickly put to use, and the resulting data is called "red". When a person dies, all of their thoughts are transferred to a hard drive that can be played back for anyone.

This creates a world where people can revisit every moment of their life. In the film, it's a world of constant happiness. I went into this film with my expectations set a little higher than they should have been. I love a good thriller that also makes me think. I was looking for a film that would make me say, "wow, that was amazing."

The Red (2021) Review

Red starring Radhika Madan, Adinath Kothare, Kashibai Chavan, Siddharth Menon, and Sherlyn Chopra, is a mind-boggling thriller. Set in Pune, the film is a coming-of-age drama which sheds light on identity theft, cyber-attacks, and terrorism, all at once.

The suspense thriller is co-written by Abhishek Manu Singhvi and directed by Akarsh Khurana, who had earlier helmed Singh's Ek Hasina Thi. Red is more than just your typical story of a cyber-crime in the age of Facebook and Instagram.

The film offers a fresh perspective on how it is possible to have a 'perfect' life but still be hacked to pieces. The story revolves around a fictional character named Shivani, played by Radhika Madan, who develops a crush on Siddharth, played by Adinath Kothare.

The Plot

A car accident introduces Siddharth to the world of face changing and he sets out to meet a mysterious fellow face changer, Harsh and see how it is done in the real world. He finds out that Harsh is addicted to gambling and wants Siddharth to assist him in his game.

What's Good The screenplay has just the right amount of nuance and one of the writers Sajid-Wajid has also directed the film. You don't know which end will hit you. The supporting cast has done justice to the roles given to them.

What's Bad How the film stops the second half is a big letdown because it is executed quite well and therefore leaves you wanting more. Loo Break Be it the first or second half, there are no long pauses. Even the interval lag isn't that bad. Watch or Not?

The Story

Aditya (Manav Vij) is a con artist working in the construction business in Mumbai, pretending to be his brother. Siddharth (Kriti Kharbanda) is the smart, beautiful girl next door. They're madly in love, and Mahima believes Aditya is her fiancé. One day,

Siddharth is shocked to find a baby girl in his apartment, looking just like Mahima. It turns out, Aditya stole the baby, and has been kidnapping beautiful women from his favourite tourist destinations and delivering them to his office in Andheri.

He meets his accomplice Saira (Sonali Sachdeva) who steals out the baby and takes it to a house in Versova. It turns out that Saira's husband, Vijay (Kirti Kharbanda) is a taxi driver who runs a chauffeur service, and Aditya is his favourite client.

Red is a mind-bending thriller

Rating: Language: Hindi Director: Amit Roy Cast: Sanjay Suri, Mahima Chaudhary, Siddharth Srivastava, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Sunil Grover, Vijay Verma Before answering all your queries regarding this extraordinary movie and its characters, I just want to state a simple fact about it.

I have no idea of who Siddharth (Sanjay Suri) is and what’s so special about him. A popular face in the Hindi film industry with some smart romantic dramas, he had acted in some really interesting movies like Kahaani, Sarkar Raj, Main Khiladi Tu Anari and others.

In most of the movies he’s been paired with Sushmita Sen. But with his latest release, he has proved his mettle to be a complex character that gives you varied emotions every time. “Why do I feel the way I feel?

The Cast

Lakshmi Manchu, Karunas, Saikumar and Vadivelu Writer-Director: Hitesh Kewalya What's Good: Red is mind-boggling as you view it. What's Bad: The film comes across as a straightforward love story, but is delving into the dark sides of reality and science.

Loo Break: Only if you are enjoying the film! Watch or Not?: Watch it only if you're a true-blue Kollywood fan, because this is definitely going to ruffle some feathers!

User Rating: It's the end of the world, as two parallel timelines collide. While Siddharth, a dedicated civil engineer is having the time of his life with his girlfriend Mahima, the infamous Vijay, who can't be trusted by anyone, is looking for a last chance to snatch the money his friends have won from Siddharth's girlfriend.

The Mind-Bending Plot

Siddharth (Ranvir Shorey) is a civil engineer who’s about to get married to Mahima (Avika Gor). He’s the best man to be found and is more than excited about the ceremony. When the first rings out, Aditya (Manish Choudhary) starts shouting the same thing, to which Siddharth replies “forget about it”.

Even though it’s in jest, Aditya wants to grab his place in Siddharth’s life, after his memory is wiped out following a freak accident. What follows is a suspense thriller that depicts the friendship of the two as well as their journeys.

Aditya grows up in the village of Gidderbaha, in Bihar, which is said to be the ‘land of dreams’. His closest friend is Vikram (Ravi Kishan), who gets all the jealousies of a sibling with him.

What I Liked

Mustafa Shariff has a great knack for carving an intense sense of paranoia and existential angst out of a small plot with sufficient verve and efficiency. His casting of the two protagonists and the great disparity in height, coupled with the innate affinity that each of them have towards the opposite gender, is a brilliant act of metamorphosis, compelling one to question the social underpinnings of these two different characters.

A film about an illegal gambling business can easily be reduced to a typical mafia movie scenario. Shariff manages to elevate the expectations of the audience by making Aditya the protagonist rather than the antagonist, and the way in which his character arc plays out is a masterclass in interrogation.

What I Didn't Like

Prashant Gupta tries too hard to tell the story in the least possible time. Not all of his heavy-handedness serves the purpose. What I Liked Coming across as a mind-bending thriller, Red won't make you agree with its characters' choices, but it will definitely make you ponder a bit before jumping to conclusions.

What I Didn't Like Prashant Gupta tries too hard to tell the story in the least possible time. Not all of his heavy-handedness serves the purpose. Verdict Told in a gripping way, Red is a thrill ride that offers you a lot of surprises.

The Verdict

What could have been a much-needed, mind-boggling movie turns out to be quite an intriguing and light-hearted film.

Conclusion

The theme of Dualism in the film is extremely clever and that makes you immediately start hating Aditya with a vengeance. The fact that this film doesn’t deal with the crime itself just makes you even more despise Aditya. His eventual redemption is too little too late for me.
