Black Lightning is a DC Comics superhero created by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden. He is a metahuman with the power to generate and control electricity. He is also the father of two daughters: Anissa and Jennifer Pierce.

With the release of the new Black Lightning TV show, it seems like it's time to review the Black Lightning comics. If you haven't read any, here are five comics that will get you up to speed on all you need to know about Black Lightning.

Black Lightning is finally making his debut in the DC Universe. For those who don’t know, Black Lightning is a DC superhero who first appeared in 1977. He’s the first African American superhero to have his own comic book.

The show’s executive producers, Salim and Mara Brock Akil, say that the show is not just a “black superhero” show. They say it’s a family show that will have something for everyone.

It’s not often that we get a new superhero. Black Lightning is probably one of the most underrated heroes in the DC Universe, but he was given a shot to shine in the season 2 finale of The CW’s ‘The Flash’.

Cress Williams, who plays Jefferson Pierce, the superhero also known as Black Lightning, is set to have his own TV show on The CW, premiering January 16, 2018. Here’s a little background on the character, plus my favorite Black Lightning comic books.

The famous DC character was originally an electrical engineer with superpowers who worked at a power company in Freeland, a fictional city that's based in Pennsylvania, USA. This Black Lightning outfit is based on that of Black Lightning's suit in the comics.

The suit features a gold-coloured lightning bolt. Black Lightning has the power of generating, focusing and channeling electricity. The electrical powers he derives are immense and can move heavy objects. He can also fly using his superpowers.
